Alternating current (ac) is far from being a perfect energy source.Ac power technology is over a century old and was never designed to meet the demanding standards of today’s high-resolution audio-video components. The noise from the alternating current is present at the power source and is then amplified by the radio frequency noise that is induced (picked up by the alternating current power cable) and coupled to the power supplies of the components and to the circuit ground. This creates distortions and low-level signal loss through the “masking effect.”Furthermore, power amplifiers may require substantial transient current reserves for their power supplies to react and then stabilize during dynamic audio passages. Most ac power cables and power regulators are useful to a certain extent, but they simply aren’t up to the task.Power amplifiers pose a real challenge for any ac power source, as the transient current requirements (even if short-lived) can often be much higher than the average (rms) current consumption.Power amplifiers are also unique compared to all other components in that their current draw is dynamic, not constant, and varies depending on the volume and the content of the audio signal.Although many ac power cables may have a low resistance to dc current to meet a certain requirement, the characteristic impedance of the ac cable is equally important in ensuring uncompromising performance. Many high-quality ac cables restrict or compress the audio transient, as their characteristic impedance limits the transient current. __t11____t12____t13__ Rf/nd-tech (broadband radio frequency noise reduction) minimizes circuit control by canceling rf noise induced U.s. patent no. 8,988,168. ac ground wires can provide protection against electrical short circuits, but they also act as an antenna. as such, they are susceptible to induced radio frequency (rf) noise. this rf noise bypasses the power supplies of components and is typically coupled directly into the most sensitive audio/video circuits of a system. audioquest’s patented rf/nd technology greatly reduces this distortion, achieving unprecedented levels of noise dissipation across the widest possible radio frequency band (range). our unique circuit topology uses a common-mode phase cancellation matrix in conjunction with patented dielectric materials that provide additional differential linear filtering. Perfect-surface silver (pss) and perfect-surface copper+ (psc+) solid conductors Solid conductors prevent electrical interaction between wires, which is a major source of distortion. the quality of the surface is critical, as a conductor can be considered a guide rail for both the fields within the conductor and the magnetic fields that extend outside the conductor. the remarkably smooth and pure surface of all audioquest’s perfect-surface metals almost eliminates roughness and significantly increases clarity compared to less desirable materials. the careful selection of pss and psc+ conductor dimensions ensures that the firebird’s performance is close to that of using all pss silver, but at a much lower cost. Uncompensated high current transfer. While many ac power cables have low dc resistance to meet the demand for high current, the characteristic impedance of a cable is also crucial for optimal performance. unlike most ac power cables that restrict or compress a transient caused by an audio signal, audioquest ac power cables combine low dc resistance and zero characteristic impedance to deliver uncompressed, on-demand high-current transients. 72v dielectric polarization system with level-x radio frequency trap (dbs). All insulation is also a dielectric, and its electrical properties affect signal integrity. When the insulation is not polarized, the dielectric’s involvement (non-linear absorption and release of energy back into the signal flow) causes varying amounts of time delay (phase shift) for different frequencies and energy levels, which poses a significant problem for multi-octave audio sound that is highly sensitive to timing. The multi-patented dbs technology from audioquest creates a strong and stable electrostatic field that saturates and polarizes (organizes) the insulation molecules. This minimizes time-based nonlinear delays, resulting in a clearer sound that emerges from a more “black” background. The rf level-x (a technology developed for audioquest’s niagara series of power supplies) in the dbs battery suppresses rf noise from the cable, preventing rf from interfering with the electronic components.Dbs pack batteries have a lifespan of approximately 10 years.Use the test button to check their status.__t27____t28__. Directionality All conductors or metal leads have an asymmetrical, and therefore directional, grain structure. audioquest controls the resulting rf impedance variation, ensuring that noise is routed away from the point where it would cause distortion. the correct direction is determined by listening to each batch of metal conductors used in each audioquest audio cable. when necessary, arrows are clearly ma
