Product Source: Why India? Lemongrass requires little water from the soil, therefore, it grows very well in many areas of India.
At the same time, by obtaining the raw material for Lemongrass oil from India, we help small farmers.
How it works: India Lemongrass is a perennial plant, usually harvested four times a year.
During harvest, the grass is cut at ground level, left to dry in the field, and collected the next day.
When the grass is collected, it is tied into bundles, which are then loaded onto an ox cart and taken to the distillery.
Production depends on the number of grass cuttings in that year, but the average production is about 110 kg per hectare.
Lemongrass already steam-distilled for essential oil extraction can then be used as fuel for the distillery.
The lemongrass used for our oil is cultivated by small farmers in India.
On average, each farmer owns about 1.2 hectares.
Although some of them continue to sow wheat, potato, or rice crops, diversifying crops with lemongrass is more profitable.
This is because lemongrass is a valuable product, which ensures a higher profit from its sale.
Increg the capacity of suppliers in India: doTERRA contributes to increg supplier capacity, supporting farmers, producers, and distillers through training and financial support.
Here are the effects of these initiatives on small farmers in India: Through a partnership with a non-governmental organization (NGO), farmers are presented with the possibility of valuable crops like lemongrass to help them improve their standard of living and income.
In 2017, lemongrass growers and distillers benefited from training, access to markets, immediate s, and field visits from agricultural officials and expert farmers.
Due to this additional support, many growers began earning almost four times more per kilogram of oil than they earned with other crops – all with immediate .
In 2018, doTERRA donated the necessary means for establishing a community-managed distillery in Mayurbhanj, which will help farmers save time and money.
