Product description
Monstera obliqua 'Peru' — a living masterpiece of botanical texture In the vast and endlessly diverse world of tropical aroids, few species command attention quite like Monstera obliqua 'Peru'.
While most houseplants attract admirers through vibrant colours or dramatic size, this remarkable species takes an entirely different approach: it captivates through texture.
Each leaf is a study in three-dimensional beauty, its surface deeply corrugated with pronounced ridges and valleys that follow the path of the veins, creating an effect that is often compared to embossed leather or a finely sculpted relief map of some ancient mountain range.
Also traded under the names Monstera sp.
Peru and Monstera karstenianum, this species belongs to the Araceae family and is a true collector's gem.
Despite its name invoking the famous "obliqua" — the ultra-rare Monstera with heavily fenestrated leaves — this particular variety does not develop holes.
Instead, it offers something arguably more elegant: thick, rigid, dark green leaves with a subtle silvery-metallic sheen that shifts beautifully under different lighting conditions.
Care guide Light: Bright, indirect light is ideal.
Tolerates medium light but grows slower.
Avoid direct sun, which can bleach the leaves.
Watering: Allow the top 2–3 cm of soil to dry between waterings.
This species stores some moisture in its thick leaves, making it more forgiving than many aroids.
Overwatering is a greater risk than underwatering.
Humidity: Appreciates 50–70% humidity.
Adapts well to average household levels but thrives with a humidifier nearby.
Temperature: 18–28°C is optimal.
Avoid temperatures below 15°C and keep away from cold drafts.
Soil: Use a well-draining aroid mix — a blend of potting soil, perlite, orchid bark, and charcoal works well.
Good aeration around the roots is essential.
Fertilising: Feed monthly during the growing season (spring–summer) with a balanced liquid fertiliser diluted to half strength.
Growth habit: A semi-epiphytic climber in nature.
Providing a moss pole or support encourages larger leaf development and more vigorous growth.
